Some Things to Think About:

Why timing matters for your photography session

One of the biggest things that affects how your photos look isn’t what you’re wearing or even where we shoot - it’s the light. More specifically, when we shoot.

Lighting plays a huge role in how skin tones look, how relaxed images feel, and how natural everything appears. It doesn’t just change individual images either - it shapes the overall feel of your session and the gallery you receive. It’s why I put a lot of thought into timing, and why I usually recommend sessions in the last hour of the day, or if we are feeling really game, at sunrise.

Why I love the last hour of the day

The last hour before the sun sets (often called golden hour) gives us the most flattering light of the day. The sun is lower in the sky, the light is softer, and everything feels a little calmer.

In this light:

  • Skin tones look smoother and more even
  • Shadows are softer and more flattering
  • Highlights aren’t harsh or blown out
  • Images feel natural and true to the moment

This kind of light also helps sessions feel more relaxed. People tend to slow down, the environment feels less intense, and that ease shows through in the images.
